MOUNTAINS

Nature has been generous with the land of Romania, characterized by variety, proportion and harmony. The Romanian Carpathians belong to the Alpino-Carpathian-Himalayan system of mountains, which covers Eurasia's intercontinental area. The Carpathian chain begins in the North of Bratislava and reaches the Timok River, in Yugoslavia, continuing the Alps. The Carpathians are divided into three groups: Eastern Carpathians, Southern Carpathians and Western Carpathians. The highest peaks are in the Southern Carpathians - Moldoveanu (2544 m/8,346 feet) and Negoiu (2535 m/8,316 feet) The Carpathians' ensemble is characterized by its varied landscape owing to the different types of relief particularities (glacial, karstic, riverine, structural-lithological), the alternation of mountainous and depressions units, gorges and valleys and the diversity and configuration of the vegetation. The Romanian Carpathians represent an exceptional tourist potential. Owing to their peculiarities, the Romanian mountains are able to satisfy the tastes and desires of all categories of tourists
Romanian mountains are pretty well known for their ski resorts. But far fewer people realize that from spring right through to autumn the Carpathians offer hundreds of miles of idyllically unspoiled alpine meadows, forests, lakes, rivers and secluded valleys, challenging mountain peaks.

Busteni resort is the most spectacular resort on Prahova Valley.
Having mountains of 2505m (Omu Peak) very sharp steep cliff rising into clouds.
 
The Heroes Monument is accesible from the top point of the cable-car in 45 minutes marked trail.
Busteni is at the foot of the Bucegi Mountains (Carpathians - Transylavanian Alps), elevation 1,110 m.
There are 25 km to Brasov and 147 km to country's capital (Bucharest). Located near Sinaia international resort (4 km) and Azuga-Predeal ski resort.

Busteni, has cool summers (July average 15.5°C) and cold winters (January average -5°C).
Here you can find a tonic and stimulative climate, with clean, ozoniferous air, rich in ultraviolet radiations.
What to see:
· Busteni has "Babele" and "Sphynx" - wind-modelled stone shapes in the Bucegi Massif, accesible throw cable-car. A modern chair-lift is in construction to the Diham and Poiana Izvoarelor chalets. Urlatoarea waterfall (half hour trail from Cable-Car lower station).
· The second cable-car from the top of Caraiman mountain link Busteni with Pestera hotel and the unique Monastery in the cave.
· On top of the Caraiman Massif, at 2,484 m altitude, there stands the WWI heroes memorial (a 40 m high cross, made of steel), build between 1926- 1928, in honour of the country's fallen soldiers defending Romania against nazy Germany in the First World War.
SKI: Do you want to ski? The Bucegi Massif has numerous runs and ski-lifts, accesible by cable-car. A new piste is in construction on Valea Cerbului. It will have gondollas access.

PREDEAL
Predeal Mountain Resort is situated in Transylvania-Romania, 25 km from Brasov, 147km (100miles) from Bucharest.
 
Predeal - Clabucet Arrival
The resort altitude is 1033 m, being Romania's highest town. Nestled between Bucegi Mountains, Predeal is a good base for mountain trails hike and, in winter, for skiing down the Clabucet and Cioplea slopes.

The various ski runs (Clabucet - lighted at night, Teleschi, Cioplea, a.o.) have chiar-lift and skilift. Predeal has low price ski schools having highly qualified ski trainers speaking english, german, french.

Sinaia mountain ski resort, Romania

Poiana Brasov is a well-known international ski resort, referred in all SKI catalogs.
· Poiana is situated at 13 km of Brasov and 186 km from Bucharest.
· In the center of the resort there is a lake surrounded by very nice hotels.
· Poiana boasts 12 ski runs (an Olympic run, three downhill and giant slalom runs, one special slalom run, two jumps, etc.).
